For the Marble Cake Batter:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp hot water
For the Chocolate or Vanilla Frosting (Optional):
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for vanilla frosting) or ¼ cup cocoa powder (for chocolate frosting)

Preheat & Prepare Cake Pan:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour a 9-inch round or bundt pan.

Make the Cake Batter:
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.

Prepare the Chocolate Batter:
- Remove 1 cup of the vanilla batter and place in a separate bowl.
- Mix cocoa powder and hot water until smooth, then stir into the reserved batter.

Create the Marble Swirl:
- Pour half the vanilla batter into the cake pan.
- Spoon dollops of chocolate batter over it, then add the remaining vanilla batter on top.
- Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together gently for a marbled effect.

Bake the Cake:
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

- Make buttercream frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla or cocoa powder.

- For a richer flavor, substitute half of the milk with buttermilk.
