For the Lavender Syrup:

  • Β½ cup water
  • Β½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp culinary lavender buds

For the Matcha Latte:

  • 1 tsp matcha powder (ceremonial or culinary grade)
  • 2 tbsp hot water (not boiling)
  • ΒΎ cup milk (oat, almond, or dairy)
  • 1 tbsp lavender syrup (or to taste)
  • Β½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Lavender Syrup:

    • In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and lavender buds.
    • Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
    • Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat and let steep for 5 minutes.
    • Strain out the lavender buds and store the syrup in a jar.
  2. Prepare the Matcha:

    • In a small bowl, sift matcha powder to remove clumps.
    • Add hot water and whisk using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a milk frother until smooth and frothy.
  3. Steam the Milk:

    • Heat milk in a saucepan or steam using a frother until warm and foamy.
  4. Assemble the Latte:

    • Pour the matcha into a mug and stir in lavender syrup and vanilla extract (if using).
    • Pour the steamed milk over the matcha, stirring gently.
  5. Serve & Enjoy:

    • Top with extra froth and a sprinkle of dried lavender if desired.

  • For an iced version, pour the matcha and milk over ice.
  • For extra froth, use a handheld milk frother before serving.
  • For a stronger lavender flavor, let the syrup steep longer before straining.
