This Green Harissa is a vibrant, herbaceous twist on the classic North African chili paste. Made with fresh cilantro, parsley, green chilies, and warm spices, it’s perfect as a marinade, dip, or sauce for meats, vegetables, and grains. 🌿🔥

For the Green Harissa Paste:

  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, packed
  • 1 cup fresh parsley, packed
  • 2 green chilies (Serrano or Jalapeño), chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Ingredients:

    • In a food processor, combine cilantro, parsley, green chilies, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
    • Pulse until finely chopped.
  2. Add the Olive Oil:

    • While blending, slowly drizzle in olive oil until a smooth paste forms.
    • Adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Store & Serve:

    • Transfer to a jar and drizzle extra olive oil on top to preserve freshness.
    • Serve as a dip, marinade, or sauce for grilled meats, roasted veggies, or grain bowls.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add more chilies or a pinch of cayenne.
  • For a smoky flavor, roast the green chilies before blending.
  • To make it tangier, add a splash of white wine vinegar.
