- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Roll the dough into 1½-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of frosting over each cooled cookie.
- Decorate with patriotic sprinkles and sanding sugar before the frosting sets.
- Let the frosting firm up before serving.
